Hey Reader, Our Monday devotionals is back and I’m so excited to walk with you through our newest three-part devotional series called Who Would Imagine A King. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, we’ll begin exploring the wonder of Jesus’ kingship; how He fulfills God’s promises, rewrites the rules of leadership, and demonstrates a humility and authority unlike any king the world has ever seen. As we journey through this series, we’ll reflect on the significance of His birth, the ways His life challenges earthly notions of power, and the invitation for us to bring our questions, awe, and worship before Him. Each week, Scripture will guide our reflection, helping us see not just the history of kings, but the heart of the King who reigns over all. Get ready to see Jesus in ways you may have never imagined, and to let His story reshape your understanding of authority, worship, and humility. Now, let’s begin Part One of Who Would Imagine A King. Who Would Imagine A King (Pt. 1)"For us a Child is born ... and the government will be His shoulders" - Isaiah (NLT) When I was a little girl, one of my favorite songs came from the soundtrack of The Preacher's Wife. It was called, Who Would Imagine a King. Even as a child, those lyrics moved me. There was something so noble, so honorable, so glorious about the recognition of Jesus as King. The words planted a seed in my heart that never left. Years later, I found myself singing that same song as a lullaby to my own children. Truth wrapped in melody, passed from one generation to the next. However, when I began to study the Word more deeply, that same song began to reshape itself in my mind. I realized that the kind of King Jesus is goes far beyond anything I imagined when I first heard that song. In Scripture, kings were not simply symbolic leaders. They were the moral compass and spiritual standard of the nation. Their decisions shaped the destiny of the people. Their obedience or rebellion influenced everything, from warfare to worship. According to biblical history, there were forty-two kings between the divided kingdoms. Nineteen ruled the northern kingdom of Israel and twenty ruled the southern kingdom of Judah (1 Kings 12–2 Kings 25; 2 Chronicles 10–36), and then there were three additional rulers who reigned over the united monarchy before the split (1 Samuel 8, 1 Kings 11). The northern kingdom never had a truly righteous king. The southern kingdom had a mixture, with some deeply committed to the Lord and others who strayed far away. Understanding this helps us appreciate the significance of Jesus being born through the line of Judah. Judah was the tribe through which God promised a forever King, one whose throne would never end (Genesis 49:10; 2 Samuel 7:16). Judah is more than a person. It is a tribe, a territory, a royal lineage. Jesus arriving through Judah reveals His authority over people, places, and powers. Even though He was not born in a palace, He was born into a kingdom. Revelation 11:15 reminds us that this world belongs to Him. His birth on earth established His rightful rule as the King of kings. Today's Challenge: Reflect on the authority and kingship of Jesus in your own life. How can you recognize His rule over your decisions, your relationships, and your daily choices? Take one step today to invite His guidance into an area where you’ve been leaning on your own understanding.
