Search ME, Oh God!

Hey Reader,

Welcome to Week 2 of our Well Encounters Devotional. I pray last week’s devotional gave you a fresh sense of how Jesus meets us in our mess, not in our perfection.

This week, we’re going deeper.

Sometimes we think change starts with fixing behaviors, but Jesus shows us that real transformation happens when we get to the heart of the matter. In this next part of the story, Jesus lovingly uncovers what’s been hidden and offers a better way.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in patterns or weighed down by cycles you can’t seem to break, today’s reading is an invitation to bring it all to the well. Jesus knows what’s underneath, and He is ready to satisfy the thirst that no earthly thing ever could.

Let’s go there with Him.

Well Encounters Devotional (Pt. 2)

Hey Reader,

At every meaningful well encounter, there comes a moment when surface conversation gives way to soul-deep truth. As Jesus continued talking with the Samaritan woman, He gently guided the conversation from physical water to spiritual realities, from immediate needs to eternal transformation.

The woman's surprise at Jesus' request for water revealed more than cultural boundaries; it exposed the walls she had built around her heart. But Jesus, with divine wisdom, chose to address her spiritual thirst before confronting her lifestyle. He understood that her relational patterns were symptoms of a deeper problem: a soul desperately seeking satisfaction in places that could never truly fulfill.

"But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life" (John 4:14, NLT). Jesus offered her something that would satisfy at the soul level, knowing that when our deepest spiritual needs are met, surface-level issues naturally begin to resolve.

We all have behaviors that serve as spiritual warning lights. Maybe it's gossip that reveals insecurity, anxiety that shows lack of trust, or anger that masks hurt. These aren't just bad habits to break; they're invitations for God to do deeper work.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24, NLT). When God shines His light on problem areas, He's not condemning us; He's offering transformation.

The woman's story teaches us that Jesus doesn't just want to modify our behavior; He wants to heal the wounds that drive it. He wants to fill the empty places that we've been trying to fill with lesser things. When we let Him address the root causes, lasting change becomes possible.

Today's Challenge: Reflect on what behaviors or patterns in your life might be symptoms of deeper spiritual thirst. Ask Jesus to nourish the root causes, not just manage the surface issues, as you encounter Him at your own spiritual well.

What if the very thing fueling your anxiety is also the pathway to peace?

While studying Philippians recently, I realized I had read the same verses on anxiety for years but overlooked something Paul revealed to the church in Philippi. They were under heavy pressure, facing persecution and everyday worries. And right in the middle of their struggles, Paul gave them a framework for peace that still applies to us today.

Philippians 4:6–9 (NKJV) says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

But Paul doesn’t stop there. He also showed them the access points for both peace and anxiety and THAT is what I can't wait to share with you!

Reader, the evidence of what we meditate on is revealed in what we experience—peace or anxiety.

In this week’s video, I unpack four powerful keys from Philippians that many of us have missed about these two emotions and how to choose one over the other.

Hey Reader, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength.” —Isaiah 30:15 Last weekend reminded me of something sacred. Something I pray you’ll experience too. Last weekend reminded me of something sacred—something I pray you’ll experience too. I had the honor of hosting the Prayer-Filled Retreat, and as I watched women pause, breathe, and simply be with God, I saw something powerful begin to unfold: He filled them. Hey Reader, October might just be my favorite month. The leaves are changing, fall flavors are everywhere, and it’s full of cozy vibes. But for me, it’s extra special because it holds two of my favorite dates: my anniversary and my birthday. This week, Willie and I celebrate 14 years of marriage. Yes, fourteen. That’s more than a decade of love, laughter, tears, apologies, inside jokes, “What do you want for dinner?” debates, and learning that somehow socks still don’t walk themselves to the...
